First, a word to our North Bay wine region family, in view of the Napa and Sonoma fires:
As two of the most gorgeous places on earth continue to burn, we can’t talk wine this week without thinking of Napa and Sonoma – so many wonderful people in the wine business up there – we’ve all got friends, family and colleagues in both areas. Not having a home to go to, or a place to make your living is a terrible shock and our hearts go out to everyone in the area. We have begun to receive calls from panicked Honeymooners and other groups seeking last-minute tours and accommodations and of course we will do our best to help out in any way we can. Numerous fundraisers and donated wine sales have also started here and in Napa to help support the Napa and Sonoma relief funds.

Thanks for caring, thanks for taking action to help by donating/volunteering.

And now, on to the wine & fun portion of our blog,
by Tiffany Wade & Debra Harden:
It’s not very often that the 13th day of the month happens to fall on a Friday in the month of October. Enjoy some October 13th Friday events happening locally:
If you’re looking for the chance to Freaky Friday into your younger self, join Brian Wilson this Friday at The Mountain Winery as he presents Pet Sounds, the album he composed at 23 years old that was topping the charts in 1966. Pet Sounds is the 11th studio album by the Beach Boys, and is considered one of the defining works of Wilson’s career. Wilson himself is considered by many as one of the most influential composers in the last century, and with special guests Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin, this is a show you aren’t going to want to miss! The show starts at 7:30pm and tickets in the back sections (still with good views) are priced at $49.50.
Celebrate your inner child at Cedar Mountain Winery this Friday the 13th with their specialty Halloween Candy and Wine Pairing Flight. You can come by anytime during tasting room hours (12-4pm) for 6 wines paired with Halloween candy for only $15. Cedar Mountain Winery is owned and run by the fascinating husband and wife duo of Dr. Earl and Linda Ault. Earl is the winemaker at Cedar Mountain, and is also a physicist, while Linda is a chef of as well as having formally studied physics and computer science. That makes these two the perfect pair of mad scientists to present this festive flight!
While we’ve gotten caught up in the unusual for this week, we can’t overlook this Friday’s Reserve Tasting as part of the ongoing Pinot Paradise 2017 festival. Held at Hollins House of the Pasatiempo Golf Club, this event combines a tasting of legendary Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays from 20 of the best winemakers of the Santa Cruz Mountains, with a strolling dinner supplied by Hollins House, and the chance to bid on magnum bottles. The Santa Cruz Mountains are widely recognized as one of the world’s leading producers of Pinot Noir, and after this Reserve Tasting, you will fully understand why. Tickets are $80 per person, and the event is from 6-9pm on Friday the 13th. (as of Thursday Oct 12th, still about 30 tickets left)
Kit Bragg is a long time Bay Area singer, guitarist, and songwriter. He is best known for forming and fronting local rock band, Redwood, and touring with them for 8 years. Now Kit is returning to his roots to play some solo acoustic shows. Come enjoy some good wine and good music on the front patio!
