Going Coastal

Part 2

by | Aug 6, 2018

These days, the thought of an escape to the coast for some cooler temps, good wine and beachy scenery is made even more appealing knowing you’ll most likely have fresher air to breathe near the coast. And the drive is easy when you’re on your own private tour bus with a professional driver to deal with the traffic for you!
For this tour, we head to the coast, then drive south to the Aptos/Corralitos/Day Valley area.

Stop #1 – Alfaro Winery

We like to start the tour with a visit to Alfaro Winery – they have the best covered patio with an amazing view of the hillside vineyards AND so many wonderful wines to try! If it’s available, the Mary Katherine Pinot is delicious, but the full tasting here includes 6 of their current release wines, with a heavy focus on lots and lots of great Pinot Noir.

Stop #2 – Storrs

Right around the corner is Storrs Winery & Vineyards on Pleasant Valley Road. This brand-new facility is their second location and just opened in July, but the Storrs have been making great wines in nearby Santa Cruz since 1988. Known for their Christie Vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and their proprietary red blend, BXR, the Storrs make a wide array of award-winning wines, from Grenache to Syrah.

Stop #3 – Nicholson Family Vineyards

So quaint and pretty, with very good wines and their own Sicilian-style olive oil, Nicholson makes the perfect end to a Day Valley tour. Try their Santa Cruz County Viognier, the wonderful Pinots, and more.

Order our delicious French Bakery boxed lunch to have at one of the wineries on the tour, or we can plan a nice outdoor lunch at Michael’s on Main in Aptos where you can sit on the deck overlooking Soquel Creek.
