There is always something fun, relaxing, and often even educational happening in our local wine region. Itching to get out to a local winery this weekend and kick off your own personal Octoberfest? There’s an exciting variety of events happening – here’s the list for this weekend:
Saturday, September 30
If you’re looking to learn something this weekend, get out to Domenico Winery on Saturday, September 30 for a classroom-style, unique and captivating wine seminar featuring Riedel Veritas stemware and Domenico wines. There is a Reception at 11:00am and the Tasting Seminar begins at 11:30 sharp, where a Riedel Ambassador will give a hands-on demonstration exploring the relationship between the shape of a wine glass and the taste, balance, and finish of a wine – it’s amazing, and you have to try it to believe it – the same exact wine will taste different in different glasses! Tickets are $60 for wine club members and $75 for non-members.
Sunday October 1
Bring a picnic to Retzlaff Vineyards in Livermore on Sunday (10/1) and enjoy some excellent live music with local jazz legend and former member of the Jay Leno band, Matt Finders, and his band. This is an opportunity to truly kick back and relax under the vines. Complimentary games of corn hole and other activities will be provided, and entrance is open, so get ready to treat your ears and treat your taste buds with some delectable Retzlaff wines at the same time. Reservations required for groups of 8 or more.
12:00 – 4:00pm
Kick off your October 2017 with a bang at Oktoberfest at The Mountain Winery! The fest will be a lively day of specialty beers, Oktoberfest-themed food bites from an assortment of local food booths, festival games, and a live performance by Royal Jelly Jive – playing jazzy cabaret sounds with hints of funk and rock. Tickets are $25 in advance, or $30 at the door, and include entry, one beer flight, entertainment, all games, and parking.
1:00 – 4:00pm
Spend your afternoon sipping wine in the fresh air and the shade of some beautiful old trees. Pack a picnic to enjoy any snacks you desire (but remember, there are no outside beverages allowed) and buy a bottle of wine to savor while you kick back to the sounds of Robert Berry and Paul Keller’s killer acoustic duo. Dogs and kids are both allowed so long as they’re supervised, and the event is free!
5:00 – 8:00pm
Head out to MJA Vineyards in Santa Cruz for a unique dining experience! Shane Winovich, the chef/owner of local pop up restaurant Pho 831, will be preparing an incredible 5-course dinner with Asian influences to share with you as you also enjoy specialty MJA wines. The dinner costs $69, and it’s a fixed menu, so if you have any food allergies or specifications, make sure to go to the website to check the menu before buying your tickets. Wine will be sold separately and there will be pairing suggestions throughout the dinner.
