Favorite Wineries for Group Picnics

Gilroy / Morgan Hill edition

Planning an outing for your team or special client? Don’t forget the picnic! A nice outdoor picnic at a scenic local winery is the perfect way to have some quality mix and mingle time, in a fresh air setting. Our local wine region is FULL of great spots for groups to picnic, so we’ve narrowed it down by city – here’s just 3 of our favorites in the Gilroy/Morgan Hill wine region!

Clos LaChance

It’s no wonder people get married here – the mile-long driveway is bordered by acre after acre of estate vineyards, back-dropped by the rolling hills (now a vibrant emerald green, thanks to Spring rains) – your mood is transformed before you ever reach the Tasting Room! At the end of the long curvaceous driveway is a great winery worth exploring, with some nice picnic settings – we do Winter/Rainy Day picnics inside their beautiful Grand Salon, or on sunny days it’s nice to sit just outside the Tasting Room on the terrace, overlooking the green lawn and hills. On a hot day, we love the shady Mulberry Grove, which sits right next to the bocce ball court and vineyards – more amazing views can be enjoyed from that location, while the sun dapples your happy face.

Recommended picnic lunch: Our gourmet boxed lunch is just $18 pp (groups of 10+), or Chef Lou can do a nice picnic or lunch buffet starting at $32++ pp and up, depending on menu (groups of 20+ and a facility fee or service charge may be charged by winery)

Sycamore Creek Vineyards

Just down the road is Sycamore Creek, now a Leal property – if you are a local, you know what that means – an olive grove and lots of nice outdoor seating have been installed on the grounds! This cool, warehouse style winery has some nice Uvas Valley views, and we can arrange several different lunch/picnic options for groups – they have an outdoor, wood-fired pizza oven, they also do a nice lunch buffet, or if your group is large enough, we can arrange a combination of pizza and their food truck, or pizza + buffet. As with neighboring Clos LaChance, seating can be indoors or out, so we don’t have to worry about the weather when it comes to enjoying your picnic, and Sycamore Creek has a full 8 lanes of bocce ball outside to enjoy!

Recommended picnic lunch: Try the catered BBQ Buffet Picnic, $35++ pp (groups of 25+)

Castillo’s Hillside Shire

This winery has so many beautiful outdoor spaces to choose from! Nice views, good wines and there’s even a pond with geese, in addition to the cozy, fairytale-style English Shire Tasting Room. The charm goes on and on, not to mention the daughter singing her original tunes in the Tasting Room nearly every Saturday and Sunday. Fun!

Recommended picnic lunch: Try our Upscale Bistro Buffet, $45++ pp (groups of 20+), or enjoy the Castillo’s cheese platter, $15 pp (groups of 10+)
